What is Q²M PPF Maintain? An SiO²-based spray sealant for PU and TPU paint protection films that refreshes hydrophobicity and self-cleaning to over 80° contact angle after every wash — on both matte and glossy films. Not suitable for uncoated clear coat or already detached film edges.

GYEON Q²M PPF Maintain is a spray sealant from GYEON's REDEFINED series, formulated for polyurethane and thermoplastic polyurethane films. The SiO² content of over 5 percent builds a silicate layer on the film, maintaining the contact angle above 80° and preventing organic contaminants from adhering. The pH range between 4 and 9 makes the sealant compatible with common coatings — unlike quick detailers for paint, which contain solvents or silicone oils and can attack plasticizers in the film material.

• Contact angle over 80° after each application. The SiO² content builds a thin silicate layer on the film after two to three sprays. Water beads like on fresh PPF, dust and road dirt adhere less, and self-cleaning returns. The effect is visually immediately recognizable by the droplet shape upon the next contact with water.
• Layering effect with regular application. A single refresh lasts over six weeks. Those who spray after every wash will cumulatively build layers after two to three applications — the durability per application increases, and consumption decreases. This is the difference between maintenance and a one-off application.
• 30 ml per vehicle — 500 ml is sufficient for approximately 16 applications. Fine mist, apply thinly, work in with two cloths. No curing time, no setting, no aromatic solvents. A bottle will last you approximately six to twelve months through your regular washing routine.

Detailing1's Pro Tip: Don't spray the sealant directly onto the panel, but onto the microfiber towel. The product distributes more evenly, nothing lands on rubber, plastic, or window seals, and you'll need less per application. Wash towels separately after use at 40 °C without fabric softener — silicate residues will clog the fibers and reduce absorbency. After about 20 washes, a towel is removed from rotation. For dark films, a fresh finisher towel is particularly worthwhile, as streaks are most likely to show there in glancing light.

Fine Mist. Two Towels. No Overspray.

Two to three sprays per panel are sufficient — spray onto the towel, spread the product on the film, and buff with a second clean microfiber towel (350–400 GSM). No curing time is necessary; the sealant bonds immediately.

The sealant can be applied wet or dry. Wet application means: spray directly onto the damp film after rinsing, pick up with a drying towel — water is displaced, streaks disappear, and hydrophobicity is immediately active. This method saves a step and is suitable for quick maintenance in between. Dry application means: completely dry the vehicle, then spray and work in with two towel passes. The dry method provides more control on large surfaces and is the cleaner choice for dark films.

Temperature determines the result. Keep the film below 30 °C, do not apply in direct sunlight — otherwise the carrier flashes too quickly and leaves speckles that can only be removed by reapplication after cleaning. If you can't hold your hand on the film for seconds, it's too hot. Move the vehicle to the shade, wait 15 minutes, then work.

Can be used on both glossy and matte PPF — the matte character is preserved, no additional gloss layer is created. On textured films like carbon, spray thinner and buff more thoroughly to prevent residues from remaining in the grooves. Avoid rubber, plastic, and window seals — remove overspray there dry, the SiO² layer on porous rubber seals leaves edges that can only be removed mechanically.

It maintains film. Not clear coat.

The sealant is chemically tuned for polyurethane, not clear coat. On uncoated paint surfaces, the PPF formula offers no added value because the SiO² layer does not bond as well to paint as it does to the film surface.

For clear coat, Q²M Cure is the appropriate choice — the SiO² content and carrier substances are formulated to reliably adhere to the harder paint surface. On hybrid vehicles with partially foiled sections (front in PPF, rear in original paint), it is recommended either to use two bottles, two towels, and clean separation — or, more commonly in practice: Q²M Cure consistently on all surfaces, because it also works tolerably on PPF. The reverse is not true.

The spray sealant is compatible with ceramic coatings already applied to the film. If a coating such as Q² PPF EVO or Q² MOHS is on the PPF, the Maintain layer integrates into the same matrix and acts as a topcoat. The underlying coating is mechanically protected, and the surface tension is further increased. The difference is noticeable during drying — a freshly refreshed surface dries faster and without water marks.

Where Maintain is not the right product: For films with visible bubbles, detached edges, or delamination. No sealant will help there — the film belongs in the hands of the PPF installer. Even slight swirls in the film surface are not removed by the sealant, but become more visible due to the glossier surface. Before maintenance, Q²M PPF Renew should be used as a polishing step beforehand.

Your standard after every PPF wash

The sealant is the right choice for anyone who regularly drives with PPF and doesn't want to see hydrophobicity collapse after twelve months. The rhythm is simple: refresh after every wash — and the car will permanently remain in like-new condition.

As a complete solution, it integrates into a three-step system: Q²M PPF Wash as a pH-neutral shampoo without gloss enhancers, which does not attack the Maintain layer. Q² PPF EVO as a two-year coating as a base. And Maintain as a regular refresh after every wash. These three steps significantly extend the lifespan of a film beyond the manufacturer's warranty. Those who have invested four to five figures in PPF thus protect the investment, not the paint underneath.

The sealant is less suitable for vehicles that are only moved every six months. In such cases, a pure coating solution like Q² PPF EVO without regular refreshing is sufficient, because the wash & maintain routine would not yield enough applications per year to take advantage of the layering benefit. For commercial detailers with PPF fleets in daily operation, a 4-liter refill option is also available upon request — consumption remains identical, and the price per milliliter significantly decreases.

Economically calculated: A 500 ml bottle is sufficient for approximately 16 applications at 30 ml per vehicle. Those who refresh weekly will get about four months out of a bottle. Those who work bi-weekly will make it last half to three-quarters of a year. This makes Maintain the most affordable component of overall PPF protection — the film itself costs four to five figures, the coating three figures, and the refresh per application is under two euros.

Application of GYEON Q²M PPF Maintain

Wet or dry – both bind instantly

The sealant works in two ways. After a hand wash with pH-neutral shampoo like Q²M PPF Wash, spray directly onto the wet panel – two to three sprays are enough – and wipe off in one direction with a drying towel. Water and sealant leave the film together, and the hydrophobicity is immediately active.

Dry application is the cleaner choice for dark films. Thoroughly dry the vehicle, then spray panel by panel, spread with a short-pile microfiber cloth (350–400 GSM), and polish with a second, clean cloth until no streaks are visible in glancing light. No dwell time is needed – the SiO² layer binds during the polishing process.

Dosage: approximately 30 ml per vehicle. A 500 ml bottle therefore lasts for around 16 applications, providing a four-month supply if used weekly. Do not spray directly on rubber, plastic, or window seals; immediately wipe off any overspray there with a dry cloth to prevent silicate marks from setting on porous surfaces.

Temperature rule: Keep the film below 30 °C. Do not apply in direct sunlight or on hot film after a long drive. If you cannot hold your hand on the panel for several seconds, it is too hot – move the vehicle into the shade, allow 15 minutes to acclimate, then work. Wash cloths separately at 40 °C without fabric softener; remove them from rotation after approximately 20 washes.

Notes: Do not spray on damaged or lifted film edges – consult a PPF installer first. Do not mix with or re-work with quick detailers from paint care products; their solvents can leach plasticizers from the film. Do not use long-pile plush towels, as the fibers will bind the product and smudge it. Store frost-free at 5–25 °C, sealed for 24 months.
