THE FINISHER × Koch-Chemie "VinylGuard" — Vinyl Care with a Semi-Matte, Grippy Feel
What do I use VinylGuard for on board? — Vinyl care conditions marine vinyl after cleaning, freshens the look with a semi-matte finish, reduces new soiling (e.g., sunscreen/salt), and maintains a dry, non-greasy feel – ideal for seating, backrests & trim panels.
THE FINISHER VinylGuard Vinyl Care is the targeted conditioning for marine vinyl in the cockpit and cabin. After cleaning with VinylTexClean, THE FINISHER VinylGuard Vinyl Care applies an ultra-thin protective film that visibly calms color depth and uniformity without shining or smearing. THE FINISHER VinylGuard Vinyl Care maintains a grippy-dry feel, facilitates future cleanings, and preserves the factory-like look even with frequent skin, salt, and sunscreen contact.
- Semi-matte OEM finish: Rich, even look without greasy shine; feel remains dry and grippy – perfect for seating surfaces and backrests.
- Everyday protection on board: Protective film reduces adhesion of sunscreen, sweat, and salt; facilitates the next cleaning and reduces rapid new soiling.
- System-fit Marine: Apply after VinylTexClean; on textile surfaces, optionally supplement with TexLock/CoverGuard – clear separation, reproducible results.
Vinyl Care on Board – Finish, Feel & Stress
Vinyl care on boats must visually calm without becoming slippery. THE FINISHER VinylGuard Vinyl Care's finely dosed polymer emulsion thinly cross-links on the surface, smooths microstructures, and restores semi-matte uniformity. Unlike oily dressings, it leaves no greasy film that binds dust and sand. Typical stresses from sunscreen, sweat, and salt are better repelled in everyday use because the surface is less "sticky" and residues can be wiped away more easily. Seat bolsters, lounging areas, and trim panels appear rich and calm after buffing and remain noticeably dry – exactly the feel you want on board.
Application – prepare, apply thinly, buff clean
Application succeeds if the base is right: first clean (VinylTexClean), allow to dry completely. Then apply a few sprays of THE FINISHER VinylGuard Vinyl Care to a soft applicator pad or microfiber cloth and distribute evenly in small sections. Allow to flash off for 1-2 minutes and buff to a semi-matte finish with a fresh cloth side. Work in the shade on cool surfaces, avoid over-application and standing product in seams. On heavily used seating areas, two very thin passes are better than one thick one. Floors/anti-slip decks are off-limits – protective film has no place there.
Results & Routine – keep cockpit fresh, plan care intervals
The result is a calm, uniformly semi-matte vinyl with natural grip. In operation, a damp cloth is often sufficient to remove fingerprints and salt haze; for more intensive cleaning, use VinylTexClean again and apply a thin layer of VinylGuard when freshness diminishes. Depending on use (sun, bathing, charter), the rhythm is between 4 and 8 weeks. Existing yellowing or old residues should be addressed separately beforehand (e.g., targeted material cleaning), after which THE FINISHER × Koch-Chemie "VinylGuard" — Vinyl Care ensures a stable, everyday-suitable appearance.
Frequently Asked Questions about THE FINISHER × Koch-Chemie "VinylGuard" — Vinyl Care
Where do I use VinylGuard?
On marine vinyl: seat benches, backrests, trim panels in the cockpit and cabin. Do not use on floors/anti-slip decks.
Will the vinyl become slippery or greasy?
No. The finish is semi-matte and dry-grippy. Always buff off residues; too much product leads to shiny spots – work thinly.
How do I prepare properly?
Clean with VinylTexClean, allow to dry thoroughly. Then apply VinylGuard thinly and buff to a semi-matte finish. Avoid direct sun and hot surfaces.
Can I protect textiles with it?
No. VinylGuard is for vinyl. Seal textiles after cleaning with TexLock/CoverGuard – this maintains the appropriate feel and reproducible care.
Does VinylGuard help against yellowing?
It stabilizes the fresh appearance and facilitates cleaning, but it does not replace brightening. Treat existing yellowing specifically beforehand; then use VinylGuard for care.
