THE FINISHER × Koch-Chemie "RoughCut" - Step 1 Polish for Fast, Controlled Defect Removal

When do I use RoughCut? - When you want to visibly remove wash scratches, stronger swirls, sanding marks, and oxidation haze. This Step 1 polish delivers high cut with a long open time, low dust, and perfectly prepares the finish for FineCut & protection.

THE FINISHER RoughCut Step 1 Polish is our powerful entry into paint correction: high defect removal, smooth operation, clean wipe-off. On common OEM clear coats, THE FINISHER RoughCut Step 1 Polish controllably removes grey haze and prominent wash marks without flooding the panel with dust. After the cut, you clarify the finish with FineCut (Step 2) and secure the work with BodyGuard or a waxy final stage. This creates a reproducible workflow from the first polishing pass to protection - fast, logical, safe. THE FINISHER RoughCut Step 1 Polish reliably provides the basis for a crisp, low-hologram finish.

  • High Cut, Controlled Operation: visibly removes defects, long open time, clean wipe-off - ideal for eccentric workflows.
  • Low Dust & Efficient: reduced dust tendency with proper pad care; clear residue control for clean working.
  • System Logic: polish after TropicSnow/MagicShampoo, refine with FineCut and protect with BodyGuard or ShineSpeedPolish.

Step 1 Polish - Micro-abrasives, Matrix & Defect Removal

Step 1 polish means: remove substance without fraying the finish. RoughCut's micro-abrasives quickly attack defects, distribute homogeneously, and "finish out" finely at the end. The durable, but not greasy, matrix keeps the pad open for a long time, minimizes dry running, and allows you to utilize the entire working cycle instead of stopping prematurely. Result: clear, defined paint with significantly reduced scratches and haze - ready for refinement with FineCut. Because the polish doesn't leave behind excessive fillers, the finish remains stable and doesn't collapse after the first wash.

Automotive Workflow - Pad Choice, Pressure & Crosshatch in Practice

Automotive workflow begins with a clean base (TropicSnow → MagicShampoo). Start with a medium-hard foam pad; depending on paint hardness, you can vary to firmer/softer. Prime the pad thinly, apply 3–4 small drops, spread at a low speed, then work in an even crosshatch pattern with moderate pressure until the film visibly thins. Finally, slightly reduce pressure and throw to "pull for clarity" on the panel. Drive carefully on edges, fresh paints, and sensitive areas; mask adjacent plastics. Completely remove residues with a dense microfiber. Now follows the Step 2 pass with FineCut for gloss, depth, and hologram safety; then seal according to the desired finish (BodyGuard for hydrophobicity, ShineSpeedPolish for waxy saturation, or JustPerfect as a later pop-booster).

Limitations & Alternatives - Paint Hardness, One-Step & Material Selection

Limitations & Alternatives: Very hard clear coats allow for longer sets or more aggressive pads; on soft/unstable paints, a gentle final pass reduces the risk of fresh haze. If time is short and defect removal plus finish in one pass is sufficient, PowerSpeedPolish is the one-step solution; for only minor marks, ShineSpeedPolish is enough. Matte paints/wraps and PPF are generally excluded - polishing would alter the matte finish or film optics. Note: Use on gelcoat only selectively and with experience; for large boat surfaces, PerfectOne works more efficiently and with fewer holograms, and you secure the finish there with WaxPolish or BodyGuard.

Frequently Asked Questions about THE FINISHER × Koch-Chemie "RoughCut" - Step 1 Polish

How does RoughCut differ from FineCut?

RoughCut is for strong defect removal (Step 1). FineCut then refines: removes cut haze/holograms and brings clarity and gloss to the finish.

Rotary or DA?

DA delivers the safest, low-hologram result. Use rotary only with experience and then calm the surface with a short DA finishing pass.

Does RoughCut dust?

With fresh pads, moderate product amount, and cool panels, it's low dust. Dust usually results from overfilled pads, heat, or too long dry runs.

Does RoughCut remove sanding marks?

Yes, light to medium sanding marks and prominent wash swirls are visibly reduced. For the final finish, FineCut always follows as Step 2.

What comes after RoughCut?

Panel degreasing is not necessary; completely remove residues, then FineCut for gloss/clarity. Finally, seal with BodyGuard or apply a waxy finish.
