What is COLOURLOCK Stitch Covering Gel used for? — The gel protects seams, contrast stitching, and light threads during dyeing, preventing dye from penetrating or darkening the seam.
COLOURLOCK Stitch Covering Gel is a specialized protective gel that reliably covers seams, light threads, and contrast stitching during the dyeing process. Many leathers in the automotive, furniture, and fashion sectors have light or decorative seams that should not be dyed. The gel prevents dye from penetrating the seam structure, ensuring that the clean, high-contrast seam appearance is fully preserved.
Stitch Covering Gel forms a temporary, flexible barrier over the seam. The gel structure covers the threads without running or affecting the surface, blocking dye absorption throughout the entire dyeing process. After application, the gel dries slightly but remains elastic, allowing for easy removal after the dye or top coat application. This keeps threads clean, bright, and visually unchanged – a crucial factor in high-quality OEM interiors and designer leather goods.
The leather is prepared and cleaned as usual. Then, the Stitch Covering Gel is applied precisely with a brush, fine nozzle, or spatula directly onto the seams. A uniform, thin film is sufficient. Afterward, dyeing, dabbing, or spraying can be done as usual, without dye penetrating the seam. After the dye has dried, the gel is carefully rubbed off or rinsed away – the seam reappears clean and in its original color. Ideal for light seams on dark seat bolsters, steering wheels, furniture edges, bags, or shoes.
After application, seams remain clear, precise, and undyed, while the leather surface can be perfectly dyed through. Stitch Covering Gel is suitable for automotive leather, furniture upholstery, bags, shoes, equestrian items, and all areas where contrast seams are part of the design. It is not a filler or a dye — but a temporary protective film that preserves the professional appearance of high-quality leather work.
Yes, on light, dark, thick, and fine seams – it protects all common thread types.
After dyeing, simply rub it off carefully or loosen it with a slightly damp cloth.
No, it only acts as a barrier over the seam and does not alter the dye application.
Yes, the protective film reliably blocks fine dye mist as well.
Yes, as the gel contains no hardening components.
