COLOURLOCK Blocker — Barrier layer against discoloration on leather
What is COLOURLOCK Blocker used for? — The Blocker forms an insulating barrier layer on leather that prevents discoloration, bleed-through, or color migration from the subsurface to the surface.
COLOURLOCK Blocker is a special barrier layer applied before dyeing or sealing to reliably prevent discoloration and color bleed-through. Especially with problematic leathers – for example, after removing jean abrasion, old repairs, nicotine discoloration, or heavily contaminated surfaces – the Blocker prevents residual pigments or dissolved dyes from becoming visible again later. It thus creates a clean, stable base for a permanently even color result.
- Effective barrier layer – Blocks discoloration, bleed-through, and color migration.
- Optimal repair base – Stabilizes difficult substrates before dyeing.
- Indispensable for problematic leathers – Ideal after GLD Solvent, strong cleaning, or degreasing.
Barrier Technology & Mechanism of Action
After application, Blocker forms a thin, transparent insulating film that prevents residual dyes, oil residues, or contaminants from deeper layers from migrating to the surface. This barrier is crucial when leather has previously been heavily cleaned, decolored, or chemically treated. The Blocker stabilizes the surface without sealing it like a Top Coat, and remains open enough for subsequent color or finish products to adhere optimally.
Application, Coverage & Best Practices
After intensive cleaning or the use of products such as Degreaser or GLD Solvent, COLOURLOCK Blocker is applied thinly and evenly with a sponge or spray technique. The layer should dry completely before color, Leather Fresh, or leather dye is applied. In particularly critical cases, a second thin layer may be beneficial. Even application is important so that the barrier effect remains constant over the entire surface. Afterwards, the regular color and finish build-up can take place.
Results, Areas of Application & Delimitation
After application, the leather surface remains color-stable and free from recurring discoloration. COLOURLOCK Blocker is ideal for automotive leather, furniture, bags, and interior parts with known bleed-through problems. It is not a cleaner, filler, or top coat, but a preparatory special product used between cleaning and color application. Especially with light-colored leathers, the Blocker is crucial for a permanently clean result.
Frequently Asked Questions about COLOURLOCK Blocker
When do I need a Blocker?
Whenever discoloration or color bleed-through is expected after dyeing.
Is Blocker useful for light-colored leather?
Yes, especially with light-colored leather, it prevents the later reappearance of dark shadows.
Can I dye directly afterwards?
Yes, as soon as the Blocker is completely dry.
Does Blocker replace the Top Coat?
